W. L. Hall Company partnered with the B.W.B.R. Architects (St Paul, MN) and the State of Minnesota on the project to replace existing glass using a triple glazed insulated glass unit on the entire 5th floor of the Minnesota Veteran Services building. We were the prime contractor on the project and at the request of the State of Minnesota, we had to work on this project at night. We used a crane to lift the pallets of glass onto the roof (1,520 lbs each), and then rolled them through an opening on the 5th floor.

Next, we used a smart lift to install the new triple glazed unit into the hole. After it was set in place, we caulked the unit into the frame and installed new modified glass stops. Existing glass was 3-5/8” thick, and new insulated glass units are 1¾” thick with a more efficient low e coating from Viracon.
